Our approach
A generated verse is a starting point. The surrounding chapter can change how a line is understood, so context is one click away throughout the site. Topic pages use human-selected references and explain the scope of each selection. These lists are invitations to read, not rankings of spiritual importance or substitutes for study in a community.

We use the World English Bible Classic, a public-domain English translation. The current collection follows its 66-book Protestant canon; other Christian traditions include additional books or different arrangements. See our translation and source notes for details.
